Feeding armies

Postby eldallone » Sun Oct 16, 2011 12:05 am

To improve food management players should be allowed to control every turn the amount of food they give to their contingents like: normal ration, half ration, double ration...

This way players could minimize the consequences of lack of food and chose which armies should or not be affected by it.

The double ration could have beneficial effects to status recovery and a minor moral bonus at battles. Between limits these bonus could improve depending on the number of turns the armies is being feed with double ration.

Food is working. But not the specification of what army gets it...

Realistically, there were very few armies in history where the leaders attempted to control the amount of food given to the soldiers. After all why would you want to piss off a large group of armed men who are your only protection from the enemy? Of course there were many many times when food did run short but these end badly for the generals almost every time. The famous saying is: " an army marches on its stomach". In game terms I think this is reflected quite well, if there is food the army gets it, if there is not it does not and starts to crumble. I think reducing the rations on purpose may be a little unrealistic, it requires the army to have the discipline not to take it with force...
